Fun and games at the KH
by chicken little inthe cong i grew up in during the 70s had an exceptional elder who was born for showbizz.
our service meeting parts were sooo fantastic they would not be believed by todays automatoms.
we had mini dramas to show how to use the truuth book, dressed up as scrooge from charles dickens novel and with "ghosts" of christmas past and present to represent old religion and new.

Wilderbeerman.....great name when you think of what you wrote. He didnt take the ban on alcohol seriously then? No alcohol with meals before a meeting? NO alcohol in service? My husband was a pioneer and he was with the Co and they got invited into a nurse who offered them a drink...good little hubby said no...the Co said he would like a sherry!!!!!!!!!! haha.

Yep Loubell, but I guess the fun went out of it when big A didnt come in 75. We loved that brother and he made the meetings so tolerable. One sketch we had was to show how not to dress for the service. We had a cute chubby pioneer sister with her skirt hiked up wiggling through the aisle at the hall. We were asked what was wrong with her.....ohh the comments, not a dry eye left we were in stitches.
I think it was the humour that kept me there, people needed something everything else was just so doom and gloom.

Denied re-instatement
by MMae ini am curious: how many of you also experienced this, as i did?
prior to my own experience i had never known of anyone who had "served their time," attended meetings regularly, and in everyway demonstrated a good heart, being turned away.
but then, i guess i wouldn't have, would i?.

Its interesting that in the two letters to the Corinthians were we have the account of brother annointed up to very bad stuff and getting told to leave, it is only a matter of months before he is being accepted back in again. I have always found that interesting.

Elders: How were/are you to be towards the disfellowshipped?
by R.F. inas we know that the elders are the only ones officially allowed to seek out disfellowshipped ones for the purpose of helping the get back into the congregation.
i was wondering though, how are they to treat the df'd when out in public?
are they instructed to completely shun them then?

My husband always talked to dfs and had a chat with them, asked how they were doing. He often met one who was dfd and in financial trouble and would help out whenever he could. Some would phone home and excuse themselves for talking to me if my hub was not home. I never put the phone down I just talked as I would to anyone who phoned me. I think many people use their common decency and are governed by that when alone....different matter at the Khall.

The cong I grew up in during the 70s had an exceptional elder who was born for showbizz. Our service meeting parts were sooo fantastic they would not be believed by todays automatoms. We had mini dramas to show how to use the truuth book, dressed up as Scrooge from charles dickens novel and with "ghosts" of christmas past and present to represent old religion and new. We had the laughing policeman playing and us as youngsters sitting on the platform in fits not able to stop laughing. We did sketches were hippies came in the hall (our pioneers dressed up) throwing flowers to the audience. We had a brother dress up as a vicar and give a sermon. We had dramas for kids ( my brother was a fat angel) throwing daniel into the lions den. Ohh those days were such fun. I played the part of a colporteur in the 20s tiptoeing to the back of the hall to slip a track under a door, the householder burst out and chased me through the hall with a broom....he was too quick he caught up with me and landed on top of me. The hall was in hysterics.
Well of course all good things come to an end..... our dear brother arranged a singalong,"roll out the barrel",(british drinking song) while he played the piano. We young ones were singing but the new CO was sitting at the front of the hall and his face was like thunder. Oh but it was funny. Needless to say that was the end of that period.
Must just add on a negative note we even had trial runs for the great tribulation that scared the ..... out of us. They blackened the windows and closed off the lights and we sat in the dark and then someone started banging outside saying it was the police and they were hear to arrest us. I had nightmares for years from that one. We had even brothers demonstrating reversable coats to use when under ban.
MY my how things have changed, I could write a book about all the funny stuff we did. Anybody else remember that period prior to 1975?

dubs and the medical profession
by freydi inhttp://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=dcj82utsjvg&nr=1 .
.
didn't know exactly how to title this so thought we might just start with the idea of why so many dubs take pills for emotional reasons.

If you know that your future happiness relies on 6billion people dying first, it is a little bit difficult to remain joyful and happy. One represses the knowledge and tries to just get on with being a good christian. The negative feelings emerge in dreams and times of stress. Rather than deal with the source many feel that they are depressed without real reason and so begin to take medicine. Quite a lot of jws spend a fortune on alternative medicine first. They try to cheer each other up by saying that the depression is a sign of coping with the last days and it proves we are near the end.
In my congregation we had many sisters suffering with depression and on medication, the brothers who were ill were avoided. I suffered for years myself before I dealt with the real causes. Many who become jws are from abusive backgrounds or emotionally damaged in some way, they are almost programmed to become ill at some point.

Why does the Watchtower feel it needs to justify...
by B_Deserter in...it's blood stance with medical reasons.
they've put out countless articles and brochures on the subject based purely from a medical standpoint.
i just scratch my head at this.

The idea is also to get jws to abhor blood, which is rather strange as blood is sacred in Gods view. I have seen witnesses go white in the face just looking at blood sausage, blood bags in hospitals etc. The degree of morbid fear of blood is really quite exceptional. The next thing close to it is fear of demons.

Do the Governing body know they are being dishonest?
by strawberry cake ini wonder if anyone has any ideas on this.
who, what is behind the wts.
is it just men genuinely making mistakes but are sincerely trying to serve god?

To make it to the top as in being a member of the governing body, means one has put in a hell of a lot of work for the org. These men have been society men for so long that they must eat, sleep and dream the stuff the whole time. I really believe that they think that they are Gods channel and that they are the ones being used. But I bet you anything that their wives must just have a few little doubts of their own if they have to live with these guys. I was once on a train coming back from a convention with one of the top dogs at the time, he was going on about how long the audience had clapped after his talk and wasnt it wonderful.....Yes dear, sighed his wife and turned to me to ask who I was and what I was doing....she showed interest ....he was on his own cloud 9. Being sincere about something doesnt make it right....hang on a sec didnt WE used to say that in the ministry? love chicken little
